Charlotte was born and raised on a farm in Greene County, Iowa. She attended Glidden-Ralston before she went to William Penn College, where she earned her B.A., majoring in Home Economics. She also has a minor in Art and is
cross-certified for secondary and elementary teaching.
When she just arrived at William Penn, Burdell saw Charlotte washing pots and pans and told his friend he was going to marry that girl. He didn’t know her name, where she was from or anything about her. Three years later they were married. They have one daughter, two sons and 10 grandchildren.
Charlotte grew up being reminded that “Only one life will soon be passed and only what’s done for Christ will last.” This truth and God’s Word have really shaped Charlotte’s passion for her many years of ministry.
Before Charlotte came on staff as church secretary at FBC in 1980, she had several jobs. She taught Home Economics and Art at Lynnville-Sully for four years. When the kids were growing up, she had various part-time jobs and also worked as a Teacher’s Associate at Whittier School.
Charlotte's job as Executive Secretary keeps life interesting. She has had to deal with transients, help load a casket, throw a bat out of the church, and help with plumbing problems. No two days are the same.
For fun Charlotte and her husband have a travel business, leading tours for others as well as their own Christian travel tours. Charlotte also enjoys time with the grandchildren, home interior decorating, scrapbooking and
climbing their family trees.
